Snapshot: The Hariyo Ban “Green Forest” Project
In 2023, the University of Toronto’s Reach Team Nepal published research on the Hariyo Ban (Green Forest) project in Nepal. The team focused on examining the project’s impact on livelihoods, gender, and social inclusion, as well as its effects on governance and community resilience after the project’s conclusion, aiming to assess the sustainability and long-term effects of the project. One of the key findings highlighted the importance of governance and community participation in preserving the lasting gains of the project. To ensure that these insights drive increased community involvement and help demonstrate its significance to stakeholders, the team shared their findings with the research participants—many of whom were community leaders, NGO staff, and government officials. With support from their community collaborator, Partnership for Sustainable Development (PSD) Nepal, the team has created the following infographic available in both Nepali and English, and distributed it to the research participants.
