Cultivating Leaders for a Sustainable Future

From climate action to social justice, emerging leaders are at the forefront of identifying innovative solutions to climate, public health, and economic challenges. As Reach Alliance researchers, you play a vital role in this dynamic shift by not only supporting communities but also by bringing their stories to life— impactful storytelling is essential to making research resonate and drive real-world change.

At the heart of this movement is the undeniable energy and innovation that university students bring to the table. They are not just passive participants in change—they are its architects. Whether it’s through primary field research, analyzing data to generate actionable research insights, or co-creating solutions with communications, Reach researchers consistently show that they possess the creativity, resilience, and determination to not only adapt to a rapidly changing world but also to actively mold it.

From grassroots initiatives that tackle local problems to global networks calling for systemic change, Reach researchers are creating spaces where communities can work together in unprecedented ways. They understand that collective action and community engagement are essential in building sustainable solutions.

As part of the Reach Alliance, you are uniquely positioned to leverage this momentum. Your research plays a pivotal role in illuminating the challenges and opportunities within youth empowerment, directly contributing to the broader movement of youth-led change. Three innovative Reach Alliance students from the recent MIT hackathon where they came in Top 3 in the Public Policy for Criminal Justice category  – Marisol Urias Luna, Juliette Henry, and Anila Noushin Mahita, —have taken this commitment further by co-organizing Reach’s first-ever policy hackathon at the 2025 Reach Conference. Their work exemplifies how youth-driven initiatives can foster meaningful connections and create environments where young voices are not only heard but respected and acted upon. Navigating the future of youth empowerment isn’t just about data or research; it’s about building these powerful networks that drive real impact.

One of the most important aspects of this research and leadership journey is inclusivity and diversity.  By prioritizing inclusive practices, we are helping to ensure that the future is one where no one is left behind.

In this spirit, Reach is proud to have eight of its alumni representing the organization at the 2025 AFS Youth Assembly in New York City. These change makers are eager to connect, learn, and collaborate with global leaders as they explore pressing global issues and push for impactful solutions. Here’s what a few members of the delegation had to say about their excitement and pride in being part of this important event.

As Reach researchers, leaders, and advocates, you are the vanguard of a new era where communities are stronger, more connected, and more resilient than ever. The path forward may be complex, but with collaboration, innovation, and a deep commitment to change there is no limit to what can be achieved. The world is watching—and it’s clear that youth are leading the way.
