Dr. Amy Yeboah Quarkume is an Associate Professor of Data Science in the Department of Earth, Environment, and Equity at Howard University. With over a decade of experience in advancing STEM education for underrepresented communities, Dr. Quarkume’s research focuses on the intersections of climate justice, health, and technology. She is the Director of Graduate Studies for the Master’s Program in Applied Data Science and Analytics, where she leads efforts in data science social justice research.
As a Mellon Foundation New Direction Grant recipient and a White House HBCU mentor, Dr. Quarkume has a strong commitment to equity-driven research and leadership development. Her work includes creating innovative solutions for fenceline communities impacted by air quality issues and employing data science to address environmental and social challenges.
Dr. Quarkume serves as the Principal Investigator for the CORE Futures Lab, working with local community data, and co-leads projects funded by NOAA and NASA. Through her leadership, she continues to drive impactful research that empowers marginalized communities while shaping the next generation of data scientists and global leaders.
