Jason Spicer is an Assistant Professor in the graduate planning program at the University of Toronto, where he supervises the Economic Development Planning concentration. An interdisciplinary social scientist, his research focuses on the ability of alternative enterprises and community economic development models to produce more sustainable and equitable societies. His academic research has been featured in media outlets such as The Washington Post and Foreign Policy, and has been published in Socio-Economic Review, Economic Development Quarterly, and the Stanford Social Innovation Review. His applied projects have included research and policy advisory work with local and national governments, as well as community organizations. He holds B.A. degrees in economics and sociology from Johns Hopkins, and a master’s in city planning and Ph.D. in political economy, both from MIT.
